From my workshop in beautiful Holzhausen am Hünstein, I make violins, violas and cellos in the Italian tradition, the finest approach to instrument making.

The ever-present Italian look and timbre of my instruments is testament to the creative period of 15 years that I spent in Cremona and Verona.

A big, pleasantly mellow sound and carrying tone characterise my violins, violas and cellos, which are handmade in the Cremonese style.

Depending on your tonal and aesthetic requirements, the instruments are modelled on either the patterns of great Italian masters or on those I have developed myself. They are made using carefully selected, aged tonewoods and finished with varnish prepared to historic recipes.

During my time in Cremona I also learnt the art of bow making, and I now make bows in the style of the great French and English masters.

My violin making philosophy is rooted in the tradition of the great Italian masters and in the knowledge that has been passed down through my family since 1920.

Consistent enhancement of my skills coupled with many years of experience allow me to create stringed instruments of the highest quality.

The best of the past perfected today in the instruments of Urs W. Mächler.
