Diana Adamyan
Diana Adamyan won the 2018 Menuhin Competition with a violin by Urs Mächler.
She was born in 2000 in Yerewan (Armenia) and grew up in a family of musicians.
A scholarship holder from the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein, she has been studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich with Professor Ana Chumachenco since October 2018.
Julian Steckel
Following a period as chair of cello at Rostock University of Music and Drama, he has been a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich since the winter semester of 2017.
I have been playing my “Mächler” for almost eleven years, since I first came across it in Kronberg in summer 2005. Since then, it really has been with me through all the highs and lows, and has never let me down. It is, quite simply, a brilliant cello, it has unbelievable projection, it shines, sings, speaks and grumbles as the need arises, and it has incredible reserves.
All my recordings have been made with it, it joins me for everything from Bach suites to premieres.
It was there for the ARD competition, has travelled around almost every continent without complaint, and I have given up counting how many colleagues can’t believe that it is a modern cello (what, it’s not a Montagnana??).
For me, it is simply one of the biggest strokes of luck of my cello career.
Thank you, Urs!

SHORT STORY
Urs is a sensitive, passionate and warm hearted human being with a great sense of humor.
Back in 2015 I was meeting him in Cologne, I came across a cello he had built. He came in the room and showed me 3 cellos.
A testore model cello with a replicated Yuri Bashmet viola head was one of them lying down the floor.
At this point in my life I was in a desperate search for finding my ‘instrumental vocal cords’. After having played the 3 instruments with the last one being the testore model, Urs being in the same room looked at me, I looked right back at him, we both smiled and laughed. Feelings were strong and mutual!
Long story short, this cello has been my friend in life since, accompanying me everywhere I go and has nurtured and enriched my life.
TESTIMONIAL
The passion in your eyes for what you do and the joy of bringing to life beautiful instruments with character is part of who you are and I love that in you man! It is your energy that insufflates life and vividness in your instruments and I would recommend anyone to at least pick up one of his instruments and try it. It is the merge of such feelings
and fine building mastery that can create magic.
Thank you for having brought this instrument on my way and for always having demonstrated kindness and love.
Forever grateful and beholden
